Chelsea has shown great interest in acquiring the central defender from Leicester City, Wesley Fofana while the player still has a 5-year contract remaining at the club.
Chelsea Wants Wesley Fofana
Chelsea has recently shared an interest in acquiring Leicester City player Wesley Fofana. Fofana currently plays as the central defender for the club and has a five-year contract remaining at Leicester City.
Just recently Chelsea successfully signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, who is also a defender. However, Chelsea wants to add more defenders to its squad and for that very purpose, it is still in the market.
It seems that Chelsea has a high interest in bringing Fofana onboard. However, the obstacle Chelsea has in front of them is Fofana’s remaining contract at the club. After the acquisition of the Napoli player, the club is interested in the signing of another defender.
Fofana is at Leicester City until 2027
Back in February of 2022, Wesley Fofana was to stick with the club until 2025. However, Fofana signed a two-year extension at the club, meaning his total remaining contract had been extended until 2027.
Chelsea Eyeing more Defenders
Kalidou Koulibaly had reportedly been signed by Chelsea from Napoli. However, Chelsea is eyeing more defenders from different teams. Rumors are that Chelsea has made attempts of signing Jules Kounde and Nathan Ake.
Both players are from different clubs; Jules Kounde is a defender at Sevilla and Nathan Ake is a defender from Manchester City. Following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, Chelsea seems to be making the effort of filling up their shoes.
Thomas Tuchel Unhappy with Barcelona
Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea’s boss has mentioned in his recent talks that he is very much annoyed with Barcelona. He revealed that they are constantly being approached by Barcelona for one of their players, Cesar Azpilicueta. The club seems to be in pursuit of the player and that is making him very annoyed.
Tuchel stated that the player still has 12 months to go until his contract comes to an end at Chelsea. The player is 32-year-old and has expressed that he wants to go to Barcelona once his contract ends at Chelsea. Azpilicueta has spent a decade playing for Chelsea.
However, it seems that Tuchel may not give the player what he desires. According to him, he thinks that the player has been heavily undervalued by Barcelona. Tuchel mentioned it while talking about the acquisition of Kalidou Koulibaly who was acquired at £33 million from Napoli.
He stated that at Chelsea, Azpi is the captain of the squad but he does not know what level Barca wants to give him when he is there.
