Did you have the J&J single-dose vaccine in a time period of one month? Do you have a persistent headache? Do you experience a leg pain that won’t go away despite your best efforts? Do you have an abdominal pain that refuses to subside? Are you experiencing shortness of breath? If you have at least a symptom among the ones mentioned above, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor. This, according to health officials, may be the sign of a rare and serious type of blood clot linked to Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The clot is quite rare. Among the more than 7 million recipients of these vaccines, just six patients have reported such a blood clot. But if you received the vaccine before two months, the risk is quite low, say experts.
Centers for Disease Control and prevention announced recently that six women in the age-range of 18-40 reported cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. This is a condition that happens when blood clots in the area of the brain where it collects and drains oxygen-depleted blood. In such an instance, blood cells break and leak blood into the brain. This results in the formation of a hemorrhage.
The six patients reported the symptoms of this rare and fatal condition within 6-13 days of receiving the J&J vaccine. One among them died within 12 days. She was hospitalized with dry heaving and sudden worsening of headache. Another woman is in a critical condition. These cases forced the related agencies to request a pause of the J&J vaccine for investigation into the matter. This pause gives the involved agencies; CDC and the FDA to investigate and understand the following details of the vaccine:
- Mechanism of the blood clot
- To know the medical history of the patients involved
Johnson & Johnson responded by pausing the vaccination in all the sites where it conducts clinical trials. This is to allow time for them to update its guidelines both for the participants and the investigators. It posted a statement in this regard on Tuesday. CDC’s advisory committee on immunization practices will meet on Wednesday. It will share its analysis with FDA for it to take further action in the matter.
A few studies also describe the characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infections in patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. because of the immunosuppressed state, those people are more susceptible to COVID-19. The Prostate Protocol ebook is an ebook that suggests alternative treatment to BPH. to know more about this ebook, read The Prostate Protocol review.
The agencies also indicate that this is not an action to panic. Even if you have received the J&J shot, you don’t have to worry about it. You will just continue with life and remain alert for the symptoms mentioned above. If you notice any, contact your doctor at the earliest. As mentioned in Prostate Headache and abdominal pain are quite normal. But CVST is rare and is serious. It also gets worse with time. CVST is not a stroke. But patients may experience symptoms of the same. They may find it difficult to speak or to move an arm.
If you get any of such symptoms, rush to your doctor. Remember, CVST is not a condition that you can wait for your doctor to open his office.
CDC, in the meantime, plans to organize an aggressive outreach program to doctors. This is to enable them to identify symptoms of CVST and act accordingly.
Doctors may not see such symptoms very often in their career and may not be able to recognize such rare symptoms. There are effective treatments for CVST. The only issue is to help doctors identify these symptoms. Certain doctors may not even understand that the general anticoagulant drug heparin should not be used to treat this blood clot. They should use alternative treatments. And that too, should be done under the supervision of a well-experienced in treating CVST.
Even these developments should not deter you from receiving the jab. Trust your health care mechanism. They will do the needful in the instances of complications.
