Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina have already played a cup final at home, and of the European champions, only Spain has not won in its territory.

The 2022 world cup final is scheduled for December 18. Although attention is focused on the premiere, this text will deviate from that a little bit.

Even more so knowing that Qatar, the host country, will not reach the big final and that we have no chance to bet on their FIFA World Cup odds anymore. We bring you the business of the day.

Uruguay in 1930

Since the second world title for the Uruguayans was in 1950 here in Brazil, the first was at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo in 1930.

That was the first edition; therefore, the match between Uruguay vs. Argentina on July 30, 1930, was the first final of the world cup. This edition was better for the hosts, who won 4-2.

Argentina in the 70s

Like Uruguay, Argentina also won its first cup title playing in its territory, which at that time was very troubled.

On June 25, 1978, at the Monumental de Nuñes Stadium, in Buenos Aires, the 3-1 victory over the Netherlands, mechanical orange, placed Argentina on the list of world champions.

Italy in the 30s

In the second edition of the biggest football tournament, Italy decided to host and, with that, also had an obligation to win. And that obligation went beyond the sports field.

The final took place on June 10, 1934, in the Italian capital Rome, and in one of the most dramatic games in the history of the cups, the Azzurri beat Czechoslovakia 2×1.

England's First and Only Time

Playing at home, the English couldn't see anything other than their first world title. That air of superiority of the inventors of football had diminished, largely due to the defeat of the United States in the 1950 World Cup.

Now more humble, they advanced to the next stage, until on July 30, 1966, at the mythical Wembley Stadium, England defeated West Germany, in what is considered by many to be the best decisive game of all 21 editions of the tournament.

The final score was 4-2, and a tournament record was created that day. Former England striker Geoff Hurst is the only player to have scored a hat trick in a World Cup final. However, one of those goals was the most controversial.

Germany Wins and Unifies the Country

In the 1970s, Germany was practically divided in half. East Germany (socialist) on one side and West Germany (capitalist) on the other. These two teams faced each other in the group stage in what is on the list of the most historic players in the world cup.

In that historic game, the easterners won, but the hosts won the competition on the western side.

The West Germans beat the Netherlands, which earned the well-deserved nickname of the clockwork orange, in the grand cup final at the Olympiastadion in Munich on July 7, 1974, 2-1. And they won their second world title there.

France Defeats Brazil in the 1998 World Cup Final

It's hard to remember July 12, 1998. That final match at the Stade de France started in turmoil, as did the campaign of the team coached by Zagallo in that cup.

France, unlike Brazil, arrived confidently to play its first world cup final at home. A dream final, with an eternal character: Zidane.

The number 10 did not have a brilliant cup and was expelled at the group stage. But it seems he was saving his energy for that historic day for them. And with two goals in the first half, the French star practically put the cup in the hands of captain Didier Deschamps.

In the end, Petit still scored the third goal that decreed the first world cup title for the French and the last one so far that a host country has won.

Conclusion

The World Cup is currently underway, and while the group stage has given us intense moments, we can't say which country will win it. However, as mentioned before, the host country is officially out of the competition, so we will wait for the next edition to know if a host country can win it.
