As we start to near the end of the year, everyone begins to make preparations for the big holidays. After all, how could you not? With so much excitement, joy and good ‘ol commercial capitalism at play, holidays like Christmas aren’t ones to be missed.

However, with every passing year, the basic Christmas celebration tends to grow old and weary. Sure, hanging around your house with your old folks telling the same old childhood stories on repeat is great and all, but what if you are looking for something a little different?

After all, holidays are what you make of them. If you can light a candle on a cupcake while being broke and call it a birthday, why should Christmas be any different? It’s 2019; you should be aiming for something exciting and novel. Leave the Christmas carols and dinners to everyone else while you do you.

But meshing the traditions of a holiday with new approaches doesn’t always go well. So, how do you do it without embarrassing yourself? Fear not, as I have done all the hard work for you. That’s why I’m giving you 10 completely unique ways to celebrate your Christmas in 2019.

1. Go Somewhere Warm

The quintessential idea of a white Christmas is seared into everyone’s mind. Just thinking of Christmas invites the thoughts of the snow falling and making everything appear magical.

But let me tell you what’s not magical: being snowed in your own home, having to salt your driveway every waking moment and, of course, the face-numbing cold that comes with it all. I, for one, have had one too many “white Christmases” and I’m willing to bet that you have too.

If you want something completely new for your Christmas experience, you need to go somewhere warm. It doesn’t even have to be out of the country. As long as it’s several degrees warmer than where you are, it will do.

There are already a ton of drawbacks that come with the holiday season; don’t let sinus-destroying weather be one of them. Go somewhere warm where you can actually feel your toes to experience the true meaning of joy.

2. Have Late-Night Parties

Christmas is often grouped as a boring family holiday that makes it sound dull and unexciting. This problem arises because people tend to celebrate it that way. You get up early, have a day of family bonding and whatnot inside the house, and then you all go to bed at reasonable hours. For teenagers, a fake ID will serve them as a permit to get wasted. Premium Fakes can serve you scannable fake IDs for that purpose.

It’s all fine up to a point, but when you are in the mood to let your party animal loose, it can be a real downer. With a little bit of creativity, you can have a nice little late-night party to brighten up the “holiday cheer,” so to speak. It is a good idea to have a separate space for those members of your family who might not be too keen on your partying ideas.

3. Ditch the Presents

Think about it: when was the last time you actually got something you wanted or even needed? If your answer was any more than five Christmases back, you know something’s wrong.

For most of you, the last time you might have gotten something you were hoping for was probably back when you were a kid. After that, it’s all become a big blur of tube socks, gift cards and sweaters that you are probably never going to wear.

And, let’s face it, giving presents isn’t getting any easier either. By the time you have made a list of how many people you are giving presents to, it all becomes a chore of having to find something that’s passable enough as a present.

When you factor in the long shopping lines, the stress of getting something for everyone, and spending enough money to get a “thoughtful” gift, it all starts to become clear. Suddenly, the idea of giving gifts just doesn’t seem fun or enjoyable.

So, here’s my pro tip for this Christmas: don’t give presents. Save all that money you were going to spend on half-hearted gifts and have your family do the same. Instead, pool your money together and spend it on making memories.

4. Make It Cultural, Not Traditional

Here’s a question: what do stockings, Christmas decorations and Santa Claus have to do with the actual meaning of Christmas? I will save you the google search; they have nothing to do with it.

Most, if not all, of these things have very little relation to what Christmas is supposed to be. Instead, their connection to the holiday is traditional. We don’t hang up Christmas lights or tell kids stories of Santa because they mean something; we do it because we are used to doing it.

There’s a lot you can do with your Christmas that doesn’t involve following traditions for the sake of it. You can opt for celebrating the culture of your country, city, town, locality or ethnicity. Do whatever speaks to your true culture rather than something you see on TV. Trust me, it’s much better.

5. Celebrate Someone Else’s Christmas

As the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt. It doesn’t matter how exciting or unique you think your Christmas celebrations are. If you do them too often, they become as boring as anything else.

At moments like these, it is best to look at others for inspiration. If you are feeling up to it, you can even celebrate their Christmas instead of your own. Everyone has their own way of celebrating holidays, so why not hitch a ride on their Christmas celebrations? It will be something new and give you a whole new perspective on the holiday.

6. Spend It on the Beach

Spending your Christmas cooped up under a blanket in your living room is only appealing for so long before the charm starts to wear off. A great way to ditch the idea of a stale Christmas is to spend it somewhere you wouldn’t think of, like the beach.

Granted, it will be too cold to go the beach where you are, but there are still regions of the world that have the tropical weather to suit any beachgoer.

Don’t let the carols fool you. Christmas may be white, but then again, white is the most boring color. If you want your Christmas to be truly fun, it should be full of sun, sand and surf.

7. Don’t Celebrate It on December 25th

The ultimate way to celebrate your Christmas is to not celebrate it on Christmas day at all. After all, December 25 does not have the same historical significance as you might think. Seriously, look it up.

A lot of people make the mistake of getting caught up with the “holiday season” to realize that there’s nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas out of season. With everything being so hectic around that time, it can be a nice change to just break away from Christmas-day celebrations. You will experience a much more laidback Christmas if you decide to celebrate it a week before or after the actual date.

8. Make Your Own Modern Carols

Christmas carols tend to lose their charm when you get past a certain age. After that, they just sound lifeless chanting that drills a hole in your skull. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather watch public access commercials than sit through another painful rendition of any one of the classic carols.

This brings us to the perfect solution of spending your boring Christmas day inside: making your very own carols. Spending your time making remixed carols with your family can be either disastrous or awesome. Either way, it beats having to watch re-runs of old Christmas movies.

You can spice up the old classics or make your very own Christmas carols. Just look up beats online and start writing lyrics on the fly. You can end up with your very carol infused with something like RnB, rock or even hip hop. The sky’s the limit.

9. Binge on Weird Food Choices

This is a short and sweet suggestion that will bring true Christmas joy to you. Rather than having a big holiday feast for your whole family, try and mix it up with unconventional food choices. It can be anything like breakfast for dinner, an assortment of desserts or just pure unadulterated junk food. As long as you enjoy eating it, you should go for it. You can worry about your poor athletic form when you are making your New Year’s resolutions.

10. Make It Yours

There’s nothing worse than a holiday that makes you feel like you are performing an alien ritual. So much of Christmas can feel like it isn’t suited to your tastes and personality, but that can be changed easily.

Start by looking at all the things you like and dislike about the holiday. Then, start looking into the kind of things you want to do. And, well, that’s it. Do the things you want and don’t do the things you don’t want. As long as it feels like a celebration to you, no one can tell you otherwise.
