Academic standards vary widely all over the U.S., which means that students with similar academic skills are evaluated differently depending on where they live. The education system in the U.S. is considered one of the best in the world but it is not standardized like it is in other countries.

Curriculums, books and teaching modules vary across the country. Some Suncoast schools rank highly in the national rankings with regards to test performance and how well they prepare students for college.

States differ in educational standards

Every state has a different educational curriculum and the federal government does not really have much authority when it comes to modifying educational institutions. In 2010 a standard curriculum known as the common core state standard initiative was launched and has gained support from most states.

At present, only math and language subjects form part of the common core. In every state demographics, population changes and state policies can have an effect on educational standards, including on the Suncoast.

The Nation’s Report Card

Known as “the Nation’s Report Card,” the National Assessment of Educational Progress provides a national sample of student achievement. The data can help to identify gaps and report on trends over time but the main reason for them is to measure student performance, not to identify or explain the reason for the differences.

What trends appear to reveal is that reading and math proficiency varies greatly between states. Reading and math standards in many states are lower than the proficiency standards set by the NAEP.

Best states for education

New Jersey is considered the top state for education. Massachusetts comes next, followed by Florida, Washington and Colorado.

The state of Florida has a number of state universities and community colleges. Some top ones are the University of Florida, Florida State University, University of South Florida and Florida International University in Miami. The Suncoast region includes the western central Florida cities.

Going to college in this region has many advantages besides the lovely weather and the beaches. The tuition rates are reasonable, there’s a strong community feeling and there are a number of good internship programs and quality graduate programs. Of course, a disadvantage of going to college on the Suncoast could be the distraction of the warm sunny weather and the beaches. Students who spend all their time on the beach are unlikely to graduate.

Homework difficulties

Many students at college for an education battle with their homework assignments and want to know, “How can I solve my homework problems and get my homework done?” Writing an essay may be difficult for students who find they don’t have enough time to cope with all of their commitments, including studying. One student may ask another, “How can I solve my homework problems”? The other may answer, “I contact CAhomeworkhelp.com when I need help with my homework.” The point is that external help with academic assignments really helps.

Recent high school rankings

Suncoast High School and Dreyfoos School of the Arts are regularly present on the popular list of the nation’s top 100 public high schools in the U.S. They remain on the list in the latest rankings by U.S. News and World Report. Overall, 11 of the high schools in Palm Beach County made the list.

Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach, ranked 61st in the nation, started out as River Beach High School in 1955 and was later renamed. It became a magnet school in 1970 and admissions are selective. Dreyfoos, a public high school in downtown West Palm Beach, rated 80th in the rankings. Each year over 1000 students from around Palm Beach County apply for Dreyfoos and less than half usually get in.

The role of parents

Parents’ role in a child’s education is a big factor. From a young age, they are a child’s role models and they can give them good examples of how to think and behave.

Perhaps they aren’t always able to help a child academically due to the increasing complexity of information and choices a student has to deal with. However, they can build the resilience, self-confidence, independence and problem-solving skills their children need to tackle any educational difficulties.

Conclusion

Differing standards across the U.S. can make it difficult to understand how well students are really doing in comparison to their fellow scholars in other states. Taking this into account, the Suncoast seems to perform well in national rankings and there are many top-notch universities for students to attend. Of course, the Suncoast environment with its great weather and beaches is a great drawcard for students but they have to be committed to their studies to succeed.
