New York, NY (October 1, 2019) -- As 56.6 million students are back in school, a new survey, commissioned by Reading Eggs and conducted online by YouGov, suggests that majorities of Americans agree prioritizing reading at an early age directly correlates to a higher quality of life in adulthood. However, according to a 2017 reading assessment completed by NAEP, only 37% of fourth-graders read above a proficient level. With more than 35 million children attending pre-kindergarten to grade eight in the 2019/2020 school year, early reading comprehension has never been more urgent.

The September 2019 survey saw over 2,500 responses from across the country and highlights a majority of Americans, not just parents, see a relationship between developing strong reading skills in childhood and a successful adult life. Key learnings include the following:

- 7 in 10 (70%) Americans believe reading confidence increases salary later in life

- 83% of Americans agree children who prioritize reading skills early will excel throughout their education

- Over three-fourths (77%) of Americans agree strong reading skills correlate with increased social confidence and maturity

With the rise of digital education apps in the marketplace, parents can now lean on continued learning outside of the school system from companies like Reading Eggs, which offers reading and math programs for children 2-13 years old and operates on desktop, iOS and Android systems, to support their children's educational journey.

“In order to aid children as they progress through school and to prepare them for adulthood, parents are now turning to non-traditional tools for educational support,” stated Mee Vin Mak, Direct Marketing Manager, Reading Eggs. “Based on the survey results, we found 3 in 5 American parents agree that the use of digital educational apps, like Reading Eggs, help children succeed throughout school. Reading Eggs has been invested in children’s education since its founding and these results serve as a crucial reminder that these life-long skills are developed from a very young age and will have a lasting impact.”
