Learning, knowingly or unknowingly, is an ongoing process at all stages of life and situations. Formalizing a process to learn a particular skill, to acquire knowledge, understanding, values, behavior, attitude, etc. can be termed as training.

Gathering information required for training the required skill or technique and delivering it to a group of people for the use of betterment of the society or the organization is the primary role of a trainer. However, the skills or knowledge cannot be forcefully instilled in anyone.

Creating a curriculum to be delivered either through traditional classroom training methods or through online-based virtual classroom software is the focus of the trainer and instructional designer. The basic human nature is to learn new concepts and ideas and adapt the same in their day-to-day lives. These learnings are based on various changes in behavior, environment, thoughts, experiences, and emotions.

Learning through emotions and experience leaves the biggest impact on one’s behavior. Based on the kind of experience one would have gone through, his learning can be balanced or imbalanced. The trainer, while designing and delivering the training program must emphasize these aspects based on the target audience.

With the help of the below-mentioned states, one can motivate the learner depending on the learner’s emotional state.

Self Motivation: If the learner has been a part of the positive and motivating environment earlier, one can remain self-motivated and learning becomes easier. Whereas, if the experience has not been favorable in the past in a similar scenario, the learner does not invest as much in the learning and will not reflect acceptance to the knowledge.

Characteristic: The learning becomes more interesting and absorbing if the learner can relate their actions to their success or failure relatively. Case studies with practical scenarios will be a good way to understand this behavior.

Staying Positive: Believing in yourself and taking things positively is what changes the perspective of learning. Two individuals with different mindsets can take the same learning in different ways. Appreciation does help in positive motivation, at the same time criticism should be put across as the areas of improvements and learning rather than failures. One can keep emphasizing the belief within that one has to stay positive.

Guidance: Guidance is a more widely accepted method of training or teaching as no one likes to get dictated or commanded. Training with a guiding method imparts a sense of respect, which in-turn self motivates the learner. Giving an opportunity for learning from mistakes is the best way to learn through emotions.

Training Method: The aim of any training program is to impart the knowledge to the maximum in a way that the concepts are understood clearly by the learner. Utilizing the suitable learning tools available for kind of training is the key to achieve the objective with ease.

Motivation: One can get motivated by external, internal, or both factors. Technically, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Both methods of motivation are equally important. Although the general and more accepted method is extrinsic which is by providing rewards, benefits, etc., however, the intrinsic method if implemented correctly can yield better results. Setting up feedback forums, discussion forums can help in this. Many a time that emotional push of being involved is required for learning which can be inculcated with the help of intrinsic motivational methods. If one can derive a perfect balance between the two, the outcome can be astonishing. This even helps in building a long-term impact on the learner and the learner retains the knowledge for a longer time.

Conclusion:

Learning is an ongoing process, but positive learning is what makes all the difference. The list of touching the learning methods through emotions and experience mentioned above is not exhaustive but can be helpful. Post your suggestion in the comment box.
