Partner Louis A. Klapp Joins Growing Practice at Firm Noted for Diversity, Pro Bono Work

CHICAGO - Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila LLP (RSHC) announces the addition of new partner, Louis A. Klapp.

Louis Klapp is a leader in the demanding intellectual property (IP) litigation field, and his practice is devoted to all aspects of patent, trademark, and trade secret disputes from pre-filing investigation through appeal. For nearly a decade he has represented clients across a wide variety of industries, including the software, consumer electronics, wireless communication, telephony, medical device, nutritional supplement, grocery, insurance, publishing, consumer products, retail, and automotive equipment industries. His patent cases have covered technologies in the software, electrical, mechanical, optical, and biological fields.

Intellectual property disputes are often complex, risky, and challenging. “Louis is a terrific addition to our intellectual property team, deepening the bench for an already nationally-known practice. He's a great asset to our clients, bringing an innovative perspective to bear on complex matters in fast-growing, high-tech industries,” said RSHC Managing Partner Patricia Brown Holmes. The firm is committed to growing more diverse teams in order to provide better solutions and greater value to clients.

Klapp maintains an active pro bono practice focused on civil liberties and civil rights. In 2017 the National LGBT Bar Association selected him as a Best LGBT Lawyer Under 40, noting both distinction in his field and a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality. He also received the Michael Gonring Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award from his previous firm in 2018. The award honored Klapp’s winning fifth amendment argument before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Klapp received his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law, master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, and bachelor’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Cornell University.

“I am excited to join such a talented, energetic group of lawyers,” said Klapp. “RSHC’s commitments to client service and diversity are impressive, and I’m proud to join the team.”
