Our businesses are only as good as who we hire and who we work with on a daily basis. An effective hiring selection process will identify the needs of the company and match them to the ideal candidate. This candidate will fit into your business both in practice and on paper. Building your team with high-caliber people who’re just as serious about the company as you are and are gifted in terms of working with others means your company will be better set up in the marketplace and for success.Recruitment
Recruitment is one of the things that goes on before the employer background check. It’s the process of seeking out candidates who you can interview and hire whenever there’s an open position in the business. Recruitment can be likened to finding the ideal puzzle piece out of a box of 5,000 pieces. Only the right piece will work, even though there are plenty that appear to be promising.
Recruitment Process
Continuing with the puzzle piece analogy, the process of recruitment is all about locating the ideal pieces for the business by doing things like spreading the job posting through word of mouth, networking, and posting it online. However, in doing all of this, you also have to keep in mind that your hiring practices all need to be above board, and that also means ethical recruitment. Also, keep in mind that there are times when recruitment can actually happen outside of your organization, but it can also occur from within.
As an example of this, let’s say that you have a position open for a head of engineering. Now, you could use the internet and social media to recruit outside of the company to find the ideal candidate. However, you might also take a look at the engineers already on the payroll and promote one of them to the open position. If you’re able to do this, it can save you both time and money.
Selection
The process of selection can actually fall under the recruitment umbrella, but it’s a bit more specific than simply head-hunting. This process can involve things like sorting through stacks of resumes to locate the ideal candidates, screening those candidates on the phone, conducting skills exams of those who make it through the phone screening process, interviewing and background checking candidates who make it this far, and finally choosing the best option from all of them.
When massive stacks of resumes flood the human resources department because of job openings that were advertised, it may take way too much time and money to interview all of the candidates. However, having a selection process that’s efficient will assist when it comes to ruling out unqualified candidates – which can include people who may not have the right education and training, who are lacking in terms of professionalism, who don’t mesh well with company procedures or culture, or maybe just those who might need a bit more work experience.
This process, and following the proper hiring practices in general, will also assist you when it comes to identifying people who just happen to be the ideal candidates for your business. They might share the same vision as your business, they’ll enjoy the types of work they participate in, they’re a joy to be around and have in the workplace, they’ll be able to work efficiently, and they demonstrate a professionalism that’s polished. Remember that your business is only as good as the people it employs, and your hiring practices can truly make or break that business.
