2020 brought us a lot of changes, many of them having an overall negative effect on the world - but there was a flip side. Certain industries boomed in the past year, and as more and more retailers switch to online models, this trend is set to continue for digital products and markets. As our lives become more integrated, more connected, and more and more things are done online, it makes sense that traditional industries will shift to benefit from these changes. Some very old and often very traditional markets, such as the hosting of wedding events, the process of shopping for food or clothing, and the interior design niche, have had to “update” to fit with an ever-changing world and the new demands of consumers.
Interior Design

The past decade saw a huge shift in interior decoration and design, which has always been quite a traditional area – although one in which trends change constantly. By traditional we mean that certain factors always remained constant, e.g. certain color combinations give off a specific feeling, particular era styling portrays finesse and/or exuberance, art from antiquity personifies the owner’s character and personal style etc. But times they are a changing…
In the past decade what is considered modern has shifted from traditional material upgrades such as unique rendering styles on walls or sticker wall art, has taken on a more cyberpunk/futuristic flair. It started with LED lighting in the ceilings, as backdrops behind feature walls, and on stairwells. Soon there were lights available with integrated Bluetooth speakers and smart functionality that connected to an app to change colors, lighting patterns, timing and brightness, all at the touch of a cell phone screen.
Digital Homes

This trend is set to continue as more and more homes integrate with WIFI capabilities and apps, and we become more dependent on this technology to assist us throughout our daily lives. Functionality is not the only aspect driving this however. Beautiful lights and new display panel technology mean we can continually update designs in our homes, offices or at entertainment venues. Colorful LED art can also be used to display messages or even advertising in a bright, visually appealing and well-targeted manner.
Taking Advertising to a New Level
“Digital advertising is growing at an incredible rate,” says Hazel and award-winning graphic designer from Thailand. “New methods and software for advertising are popping up constantly, it’s getting hard to keep up!” Digital panel advertising on public transport, in app cell phone banners and ads, website popups with video integration... the list goes on. “Don’t expect this trend to stop anytime soon, either,” says Jay, a tech blogger from http://myguide2life.com. “With such a strong industry push towards digital shopping as a more convenient method of making purchases, retailers are only going to be investing more in these new forms of marketing.”
Regardless of what you think about the merging of the digital world with traditional forms of designs, this trend looks unstoppable. From Web design to interior design, automotive and transportation design to architecture, our future looks like it’s going to be a lot more colorful, well-lit, and in higher definition.
